The College of Mount St. Joseph Choral Workshop
Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM (PDT)
The College of Mount St. Joseph is pleased to host a day of choral workshops on Saturday, September 29. These seminars offer music educators the chance to learn about teaching strategies that enhance student participation in the classroom. Seminars will focus on reaching students with diverse needs, improving communication amongst faculty members, and creative ways to foster a love of music in almost any setting.
The Diverse Learner
Music styles are diverse, and so are the needs of students exploring them. This seminar gives educators the chance to learn ways of positively connecting with all student musicians, regardless of background or skill level.
Tips for Teaching Music to English Language Learners Songs That Work
This seminar, hosted by Nationally Certified Teacher in Music Joyce Click, focuses on supplying educators with the proper resources to teach non-native speaking student-musicians. Ms. Click will also discuss ways to improve communication between ESL teachers. This seminar will also include stories about teaching music to unique communities of first generation immigrants in Indiana.
Rounds, Cannons, and Catches
During this seminar, speakers will provide choral educators with rounds, canons, catches, and part song resources that can be used at all levels of choral instruction. Several other singing styles, such as a cappella and blend will be explored as well.
Veteran music teacher, composer and clinician Michael Spresser will lead a reading session.
The Choral Workshop will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the Mount's campus Theatre. Ample parking is provided in the West Lot. If you are driving to the College, directions can be found on our location page.
The cost of the workshop is $25 and includes choral packets, continental breakfast, and lunch. One hour of Graduate Credit is offered. A syllabus is available upon request or at the workshop, the cost of Credit is $199.
